abstract

This paper will discuss some of the necessary details to consider when planning for the field construction portion of a replacement feedwater heater project. Key planning issues for the installation of the new heaters will be discussed, including development of lifting and rigging plans, checking that dimensional changes in the new heaters can be accommodated by the installation area, proper review of field welding procedures, and weld preheat & stress relief requirements. Practical examples from the Gibson Station 3G1/3G2 heater replacements will help emphasize the importance of construction planning as a vital part of feedwater heater replacement project success, contributing just as much to the long, reliable life of the heater as proper design and fabrication.
