A brief review is made of the flow pattern surrounding V/STOL aircraft utilizing various propulsion concepts during tests of these aircraft in close proximity to the terrain. Specific problems encountered by the propulsion systems and caused by the character of the flow are described together with the fixes employed. Ground surface debris and hot gas reingestion effects are the primary consideration.
