For more than a decade, aircraft-derivative industrial gas turbines have been used in middle eastern oil fields for providing power to water injection and crude oil pumping installations.

The remote desert locations and the hostile environment provide a unique challenge. This paper describes some of the experiences gained in operating aero-derivative gas turbines in the onshore oil fields of Abu Dhabi.
