An analysis of experimental results was carried out, establishing a direct correlation between measured velocity profiles and windage losses for a rotating disk inside a shrouded stator as typically found in turbomachinery.

The analysis gives information on the regions of the rotating and static parts, which have a dominant effect upon disk windage.
