The prediction of boiler performance during start-up is critical, yet very little work has been done on this topic. The objective of this paper is to study the parameters characterizing the HRSG performance during start-up. These parameters are the rise of metal temperatures, steam pressure and water level in the drum. The extreme case was analyzed by assuming that all the openings were closed and there were no leakages. The heat transfer mechanism is discussed. The resulting governing equations were solved numerically. The results were then plotted as a function of time to illustrate the boiler performance. It is found that during the full-load condition of the gas turbine, the rise of metal temperatures, steam pressure and drum water level may be very high and thus subject the pressure parts to high thermal and pressure stresses.
