abstract

Based on film theory model, an approach is developed to analyze the condensation of a binary mixture, while one is non-condensable component, on a baffled shell and one path tube condenser. Using of this approach leads to have the condensation rate and both mixture and coolant temperatures at the end of each baffle spacing, which is considered as a control volume in this research. This method is checked for a set of steam-air mixture and water as coolant on a counter and a parallel current condenser. The results show that the condensation rate and temperature profiles in each condenser have consistence trend. Also comparisons of output values of both types of the condenser for different air mass fraction indicate an overall superior operation of counter type than the parallel type.
