abstract

Based on present integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) development activities and the renewed role of coal as the primary fossil fuel for power generation, there is a high probability that several IGCC projects will materialize in the near future. A challenge facing Owners, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors, and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) is to define performance guarantee criteria and the practical means to determine them. In anticipation of this, the ASME Performance Test Committee developed a Performance Test Code for IGCC plants — PTC 47. Currently, a final draft of PTC 47 is in the approval stage. IGCC performance plant testing is facing many unique challenges. However, by offering guidelines for accurate testing, this code should play an important role in the full commercialization of this technology.
