In 2002 & 2003, the Ameren UE Meramec plant carried out complete coal pulverizer design upgrades and installations on the plants two largest operating units. These units were designed and constructed in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. The coal pulverizer replacement project involved the removal of six rotary coal ball mills and the installation of twelve new state of the art coal pulverizers. This technical paper examines the resulting operating experience demonstrated and achieved as a result of the new coal pulverizer installation on the plants two largest generating units.
