abstract

In damage examples of hatch covers under green seas and bow flare subjected to slamming, external force where causes the structure damage comes from collision between hull structure and water around it. And the structural deformation and hydrodynamic pressure are so closely related with each other that a fluid-structure dynamics interaction must be considered. In this paper, we briefly introduce a computer program for fundamental study of these phenomena considering fluid-structure dynamics interaction, which is combined with SOLA-VOF developed by Hirt and et al and DYNA3D developed by Hallquist and et al. Next, we discuss some calculation results carried out for collision of 2-D flat plates and stiffened plates with cylindrical water body, compared with experimental results presented by Faltinsen and et al. Finally, effects of stiffness of stiffened plate and water body shape on pressure and structural response are investigated.
